ALASKA BUILDING
Location: Southeast corner of Cherry Street and 2nd Avenue.
At 14 stories the Alaska Building was Seattle’s first steel-framed skyscraper when it opened in 1904. Comparing the bottom (1910) and middle (1908) details from the historical pans shows that the Alaska Steamship Piers 1 and 2 at the foot of Yesler Way have been extended. Now this site of the original Yesler Warf is part of the wide vehicle staging ground for the Washington State Ferries that call at Colman Dock.
